Mechanical Engineer

Our rapidly expanding client, a successful engineering business, has a new requirement for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their team. You will be tasked with the full design process for new products from concept designs to detailed manufacturing drawings. You will also be responsible for detailing manufacturing and assembly procedures and all mathematical calculations that are required in order to do so.

Key Tasks/Objectives
• Manage end to end design of new products
• Understand existing product range and identify key improvement areas
• Design products in 3D CAD for the UK and European markets
• Programme CNC machines
• Produce detailed engineering/manufacturing drawings with Bills of Materials
• Develop working relationships with customers and suppliers
• Manage product specification within internal MRP software
• Produce Standard Operating Procedures to detail manufacturing and assembly methods
• Produce documentation and drawings for patent and design right applications
• Provide general technical expertise to assist company growth, e.g. Specifying new machines, new tools, designing assembly jigs, new computer software, workshop computer access, new factory design
• Produce technical documents, reports and presentations for internal and external use

Your responsibilities will include all aspects of design and manufacture of the entire company product range

Essential Skills:
• Hold a relevant engineering degree preferably in Mechanical Engineering, preferably from a Russell Group University
• Strong experience using 3D CAD software (Ideally Solidworks)
• Full lifecycle design experience – concept design, 2D/3D modelling, engineering drawings and designing for manufacture as well as maintenance and design improvement considerations
• Experience with use of ERP and/or MRP systems i.e. SAGE, Oracle, Progress Plus or others
• Proven Project Management skills and experience
• Proficient IT skills with strong knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• General business acumen

Desirable Skills:
• Experience of working in an ISO 9001 accredited Engineering company
• Project Management qualifications i.e. Prince 2, PMP, Six Sigma Black Belt or other
• Experience of working with sheet metal, extruded aluminium and machined products
• Experience of working with cable assemblies, hydraulics, and pneumatics
• Experience of working with injection moulded and 3D printed components
• Experience of working to produce CNC machine programs
• Lean Manufacturing Experience i.e. 5S or Six Sigma
• Experience with Continuous Improvement systems and techniques

The salary range is very competetive and will be dependent on your level of experience but is expected to be between £35,000 and £55,000.
